Neurodiversity

What?

Neurodiversity is a term to describe the unique ways people’s brains work. While everyone’s brain develops similarly, no two brains function just alike. Being neurodivergent means having a brain that works differently from the average or neurotypical person.

This can be narrowed down into one of many terms, such as ADHD, Autism, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia. Neurodiverse terms are recognised as a social category similar to differences in ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or levels of ability.

Why?

Neurodiversity develops as the brain develops. There is no one cause for any type of neurodiversity, it simply is. There have been theories about why someone might be neurodiverse, such as why they are autistic. One theory was that autism can be connected to vaccines. This has been widely proven to be false. There is no proven connection between autism and vaccines.

As there is no actual cause for the different types of neurodiversity there is no cure. If you, or someone you know, are struggling with neurodiversity, there are ways to adapt your everyday life to make it easier for you.
